Re: Reset iSerial Reader

Hello Mrngneom,
Welcome to the EKm forum!!

We have a small piece of software called VCOM (PC only) that is used to scan your local network for any iSerial. You run it and it will return all of the IP addresses of the iSerials on your network.

Here is a link to the pdf about the VCOM software: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM_iS ... t_VCOM.pdf

Here is a link to download VCOM: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/vcomsetup.exe.zip

The iSerial will also respond to pings on your local network. Let us know how this works.

Here is an example of us sending a ping to a device on our network:

Ping has started…

PING 192.168.1.145 (192.168.1.145): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.1.145: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=3.471 ms

Formerly it had an IP address of 192.168.0.125. Then I moved it to its current location and it doesn't respond to that address anymore. The only change in the setup is the router which makes me think the router is the culprit. The IP address range of the router is 192.168.0.XXX and the gateway is 192.168.0.1. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
From my experience the iSerial cannot accept an IP address of 192.168.0.XXX due to a bug in the firmware, therefore your address range needs to be 192.168.1.XXX or higher.

You can reset the serial server to factory default settings by pressing & holding the white button inside the unit while powering up the serial server.

In detail:

1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable
2. Disconnect the serial cable
3. Disconnect the power supply
4. Unscrew the two screws on each side on the unit and remove the cover
5. Locate the small white reset button, next to the power supply jack
6. Press and hold the reset button
7. While holding the reset button re-connect the power supply
8. The Power LED light will light up
9. After 7 – 10 seconds, while holding the reset button, the green LED will flash once
10. The Serial Server is now reset to factory settings

I am not aware of an issue with the iSerial being on 192.168.0.xxx networks.

If I want to reset an iSerial I try either of these two processes. Dont usually get it on the first try so give it a few tries.

Process for resetting iSerial Switch

1. Unplug ethernet
2. Start with iSerial Powered Up
3. Hold reset button (this is a teeny tiny button inside the iSerial that is located between the Power Barrel Jack connector and the Ethernet Connector.)
4. Unplug power with reset still held
5. Plug power in after 10 seconds
6. Release Reset Button
7. wait 10 seconds
8. Plug in iSerial power
9. Green LED should be in a slow flash

Or.......

1. Unplug ethernet.
2. Open up the iSerial enclosure using a screwdriver.
3. Plug in the power.
4. Locate the small reset button between the power jack and the ethernet input.
5. Hold down the button and unplug the device.
6. Still holding the button down, wait 10 seconds.
7. Still holding the button down, plug power back in.
8. Still holding the button down, wait 10 seconds then release the reset button.
9. Unplug the device.
10.Plug ethernet back in and plug power back in.

Let us know how this works for you.

Thanks,
Jameson
