If you guys a interested in a long term data set, EKM has just beta released our Summary API. All beta testers are welcome.

Jameson,

Which parameter on the v4 tells you if the total watts is in reverse? I can see the Current Direction L1, L2 and L3 parameters but not a flag stating whether there is an overall forward or reverse (and the total watts does not show negative when exporting excess solar generation).

Thanks,
David

Good question. You would have to calculate if the overall is forward or reverse. This piece of information is not provided by the meter itself.

For example:

L1 = 1200 watts forward
L2 = 400 watts reverse
L3 = 100 watts reverse

You could say that "Net Watts" = 700 watts forward. In this example the Total Watts would be reported as 1700 Total Watts. You are really after Net Watts. We are thinking we will add the calculated "Net Watts" to both the EKM Dash data and to the EKM Push data in the future. Let me know if you would like more examples.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yes, Net Watts would be very useful as Total Watts is misleading if the current is going in different directions on each line.

I have recently changed my EKM to read net usage rather than consumption in order to run triggers that run off exported power from solar PV. Those triggers won't work properly without a net watts figure which ideally would show negative for export and positive for import.

I'm struggling to get PVoutput to work correctly even though it claims to support net Metering for EKM v4. Also on Wattvision.com the daily history graph shows exports and imports correctly but the live history shows any reading as imported power.

I'll get in touch with both PVoutput and Wattvision.com to check how they are determining net watts and direction and to use your logic above.
