I couldn't find any clear reference in the product documentation, but I'm interesting in polling the iSerial device from our monitoring server (Zenoss, but it's irrelevant in this case).
Is iSerial SNMP enabled or what other methods can be used to read the metering values over the network without using the EKM Reader software?
Cheers,
R.
Does iSerial do SNMP / remote data retrieval
Re: Does iSerial do SNMP / remote data retrieval
raduv,
Welcome to the forum.
We use the iSerial as a "virtual serial port". We send the hex meter requests to this "virtual serial port". The iSerial is really a "dumb" converter box, it does not generate the meter requests itself.
The hex request is generated by the computer, the signal goes out over the LAN or the internet, the iSerial receives this signal and converts it to RS485.
There is a lot more information about the meter RS485 communication protocol here: http://www.ekmmetering.com/developer-portal
A much easier and scalable way to go would be to use an EKM Push gateway instead. This way, all you have to do is retrieve the data from the EKM Push servers. You just connect your EKM Push gateway to your meters and to the internet and it starts working. You then access your data via a simple .xml call and insert it into your own system. Here is more information about the EKM Push system: http://www.ekmmetering.com/push-communications
Let me know if you would like me to elaborate on either method.
I also want to make sure you are aware of the new EKM Dash software rather than the older EKM Reader software: http://www.ekmmetering.com/ekmdash
