I implement the meter with 3-phase 4-wire (3 hots and a neutral) EKM-Omnimeter Wiring. Now I have a question regards to the load side that:
I have a single phase fan, and I hope to use the EKM meter to monitoring its consumption. So how can I connect the single phase fan to the three phase lines with the meter so that the meter can metering the fan?
Really thanks if anyone can help solve my doubts.
EKM Metering load side question
Re: EKM Metering load side question
Because I'm not sure about how it derives the power for its internal electronics and whether that will work with only one phase driven.
Re: EKM Metering load side question
Hello Kane,
I may be missing the nature of your question.
But lets assume you just want to meter a single phase Fan using an EKM Omnimeter.
The EKM Omnimeter is a Universal meter so it can be wired to either read 3-phase systems or single phase systems. Here are 2 different wiring configurations for single phase systems (you did not mention what the voltage of your fan is):
120 volt (or 230 volt foreign systems) 2-wire single phase: http://www.ekmmetering.com/information/ ... ml#answer5
120/240 3-wire single phase: http://www.ekmmetering.com/information/ ... ml#answer6
Please let us know if this answers your question.

Re: EKM Metering load side question
Hello Jameson,
Thanks for your reply.
My situation is that the EKM has to be wired in three phase due to some requirements, and the problem is that the fan load is single phase, I'm trying to combine these two features. As I mentioned, I'm not sure whether the meter will still work well if only one phase line is used, or do you have any idea to solve this problem?
Really thanks very much for your help.

Re: EKM Metering load side question
Hello Kane,
I still am not clear on the nature of your installation or why you may need to connect the meter to 3-phase.
But if the fan is the only load in your 3-phase system that the meter is measuring (the fan is only connected to one of the phases), then the meter will measure its consumption accurately.

Re: EKM Metering load side question
Hello Jameson,
So according to your meaning, the meter will not require the three phases compulsorily in a balancing load right?
I'm confusing these days because I'm not sure whether the meter will still function well or not if the three phases are not balancing (like I only connect one of the phases with a fan and leave the other two unconnected).

Caiyan

Re: EKM Metering load side question
Hello Kane,
Yes, you can use our meter to measure an unbalanced 3-phase 4-wire system.
For example:
A 3-phase 4-wire 120/208 volt system.
There are 3 hot wires and a neutral wire.
If you measure from any hot wire to another hot wire you would get 208 volts.
If you measure from any hot wire to the neutral wire you would get 120 volts.
You can have the fan connected to one of the hot wires and the the neutral wire and it would be powered with 120 volts. We would recommend that you connect the meter to measure the 120 volt single phase load of the fan only (only requires 1 CT). But if you have to connect it to the entire 3-phase 4-wire system and the fan is the only load, you will get the same result (but this requires 3 CTs).
Thanks,

Hello Jameson,
Thanks so much for your information. By the way, do you know how long will it normally take to get the products if I order online? I'm in Singapore.

Re: EKM Metering load side question
possible within one week??
