25IDS Wiring Direction

Post by rollie715 »

I plan to install a 25IDS above an existing 120/240V breaker panel. The Installation instructions indicate the wires should pass through the body so the Line side comes in from the bottom and exit out the top going to the Load. This is the opposite orientation of my panel arrangements. Since the circuit is AC, does it really matter what direction the wires pass through the meter?

Hello Rollie,

Thanks for posting to the forum!

This particular meter (the 25IDS) does not distinguish between what direction the power is flowing. So you can install this particular meter with the wires going through the body of the meter in whichever direction works best for you. As long as you pass the 2 hot wires through the body of the meter and as long as you measure 240 volts between the piercing lugs, you should be fine. Here is this meter on our website (for others to see): http://www.ekmmetering.com/ekm-metering ... 25ids.html

If it were a 25IDS-N or an Omnimeter then you would have to pay attention to the direction of electrical flow. Otherwise you would get "Reverse kWh" even though you were only measuring "Forward kWh"

If you ever need anything at all, please let us know.

Thanks Jameson,
That will be very helpful for my installation. This is the second meter I have installed from you and have been very happy with them so far.
