Wow good to hear! Those meters are a bit of a relic.

What happens if you just click ignore? Does the meter get read, but the Dash is not able to parse the data? There is very little chance we will be updating the software to support this meter as it is something like 6 years old. I would rather just help you out with a replacement. How does that sound?

Hello,

I forget the error I get if I click ignore, but it does not read the data. If I were to replace it, will the new one work with with the 5 amp coils that I use now? It would be a pain to have to change them out. Let me know what you can do for me.

Thank You,

Scott

Yes, the EKM Dash is not able to interpret the data format from your meter.

If you were to swap out your meter with an EKM Omnimeter, you would also have to swap out the CTs. Your 5 amp output (5000 milliamp) CTs would likely damage our meter that is designed for 26.6 milliamp output CTs.

We can help you with the cost of the Omnimeter, but not the CTs you choose. We would ask that you ship your 5amp meter back to us in order to replace it. Let me know if you want to move forward with this.

Thanks for the pic!

Alright, Looks like I will need to get 4 of the BCT-013-200 current transformers.. Will the new meter work with my existing Iserial adapter?
I would like to get the new meter, no problem sending back the old one. Let me know what my cost will be.

Thank you,

Scott

It looks like you have a 120/240 system. Will you be using 2 CTs on each phase? Normally you would only need 2 CTs.

You can use 2 CTs on each phase (for a total of 4 in this case),
In the attached screenshot there are 2 phases. For Line 1: The CT black wires from CT1A and CT1B go to Port 1 on the Omnimeter. The CT white wires from CT1A and CT1B go to Port 2 on the Omnimeter. etc.
The CTs will combine outputs to the meter. Be sure that if the parallel cables on Line 1 are 400 amps all together for example, that you use two 400 amp CTs on the parallel Line 1 cables. (you don’t want to use 2 of the 200 amp CTs on each phase in this example)

Yes you can use the iSerial with your meter (you will have to change it from 1200 baud to 9600 baud). Though I think it would be better to use an EKM Push in your case because you are using wattvision. The EKM Push will post your meter data to your EKM Push account and if you give wattivision your EKM Push key, they can retrieve your data. You wont have to run the EKM Dash 24/7 for this to work.

ok, I will email tomorrow. I need 4 current transformers because I monitor the power from the utility and my whole house generator. That is what the relays are for, they switch the current transformer feed to the generator from the utility when the utility relay drops out. But looking at your drawing it looks like the meter will do it for me without having to use the relays?

Thanks,

Scott

Hello Scott,

Yes, you are right. I dont think the relays will be necessary to accomplish this task. You basically have Line1 from the Utility and Line1 from the Generator (neither of these are in use at the same time) you could have both Line1 from the Utility and Line1 from the Generator passing through either the same CT or through the 2 CTs on the same phase as we discussed earlier. The EKM meter would only see either the Utility or the Generator.

I got my new meter today. Installed it based on the diagram (Not using the relays to switch the CT's any more)
It took me a little while to remember how to get my API information from Wattvision but it is working great now.
EKM really is top notch, great products and great support. Next thing will be to add the water and gas meters :)
Thank you for all your help!
