options to get the push3 data to the internet

Post by --Oz-- »

First post here, I am new to the whole EKM ecco system.

I am setting up a remote reading power, water, gas system that will be connected on a rental unit.

I am not 100% sure the tenant will have wifi that I can connect the puch3 unit to.
What are my options to get the push3 data to the internet?

1. LoRa WAN (thinking its the lowest cost, possibly a esp32 Lora & wifi module or?)
2. Mobile hotspot (low cost options?)
3. Or ???

Suggestions, links?

My parts:
EKM-Push3 #ST1 EKM Push3 - Cloud Data/Control System
Omni Pulse v.4 #27 EKM Omnimeter Pulse v.4 - #27
BCT-007-100 #11 Mini Solid-core CT, 100A:26.6mA, 7mm (0.27”) Hole Diameter, BCT-007-100UL -
PGM.75 #40 3/4 Inch Pulse Output Gas Meter - PGM-075
SPWM-075 #39 3/4 Inch Water Meter - Stainless Steel, Pulse Output

TIA!

Hello --Oz--, welcome to the forum!

Here are the options as I see them for how to connect your Push3 to the internet (in order of lowest cost)

1. Ask your tenant or your neighbor if you can connect the Push3 gateway to their wifi (or come to an arrangement if you have to). The Push3 has built in wifi capability, if your tenant is willing to give you their password, you could connect to their internet. The Push3 does not use much data at all, and Im sure they would not notice the data load if you were to connect 20 Pushes to their wifi.

2. Do the same but connect to the tenant or neighbors internet router via an ethernet cable, the Push3 has a built in ethernet port.

3. Get your own broadband internet to the property with your own service contract.

4. Connect the EKM Push to the internet via a Cellular data modem. We have one here for sale as an example, which comes with a 2 year data plan: https://www.ekmmetering.com/collections ... ika-rut240. You can also use a 3rd party cellular modem, but pay attention to the data plan that comes with it, that can be the biggest cost.

5. Connect to the internet via Satellite internet by using a service like Starlink: https://www.starlink.com/

====

Sorry, we do not have an option to send meter data to the cloud via LoRaWAN.

Hi Jameson, thanks for the quick reply.

I am hoping a tenant will have wifi and let us tap in.
I was preparing for the worst :)

What is the reason a LoRWAN would not work?
(Push3 wifi to esp32, then esp32 sends data out on LoRaWAN to a LoraGateway and now it's on the internet)

Thanks!

In theory someone could develop a device that would read EKM Omnimeters, parse the data, and make it available over LoRaWAN. This device could send the data to The Things Network or to the Helium network. But the data would then be on those networks and not in the Push system.

To my knowledge there is no way to do this with the EKM Push3 gateway involved.

We have tinkered with LoRa and may develop a product as an alternative to our 485Bee wireless mesh radios: https://www.ekmmetering.com/collections ... 85-network
