EKM-Omnimeter & EKM Reader V2

Post by sohail829 »

Hi,
connected the meter with 3 phase/415V
4 wires, ELCB breaker tripping, removed Neutral wire now i think i can use only 2 CT
connect iserial with Computer thru LAN & connected with iSerial but not getting
any data on computer.

Tried to connect directly to read RS485 not getting any data.

want to know procedure to see data thru TCP & direct RS485.

did we need to connect computer all time to record or meter have some internal memory.

we are testing meter for HVAC equipments here in Dubai & planning to use many meters in future.

Sohali,

Thank you for using our meters.

Meter Issue:

For a 3-phase 4-wire system you will need to leave the neutral wire connected to the meter. Here is a video showing proper wiring of a 3-phase 4-wire system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeKiZddR ... re=related

There is more information and wiring diagrams for a 3-phase 4-wire system towards the end of this spec sheet here: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/OmniMe ... tering.pdf

Are you thinking that the meter has something to do with tripping your breaker? We have never heard of this and would be interested to hear if you determine this to be the case.

===

iSerial Issue:

Have you been able to log into your iSerial over your LAN network? The meter comes preconfigured with the IP address 192.168.1.125

Are you running the EKM Reader software?

Let first get you started with running our new software architecture. We are calling this our EKM Dash and it will be easier to setup and run than the the EKM Reader. Here is a link to access the software download: http://www.ekmmetering.com/ekmdash

I will paste in some instructions to get it going below.

In order to read your meters over the internet using the iSerial and the EKM Dash software, you will need to have a computer running to do this. It sounds like you will be interested in our new EKM Push system, with this there are none of the configuration issues you are having and you will not need to always run a computer to have your meters be read and the data being logged. This will also be a better solution for you if you are considering having more than a few dozen meters to keep track of. Here is more information about the EKM Push: http://www.ekmmetering.com/push-communications

===

Here are instructions for setting up the EKM Dash software:

Here is the link to access the download again: http://www.ekmmetering.com/ekmdash

EKM Dash
Open the software.

Extract the zipped file an run the software

Adding a meter

Click Meters > New Meter (this is the meter setup window)
Name your meter: Based off of the meter location or the equipment you are metering. Any name that you will recognize will do.
Select your meter model from the Meter Model Drop Down list.
Enter the meter number in the Meter Number field. You can find your meter number laser etched on the face of your meter right under the LCD screen. For example: S/N 000000010978 You can enter this meter number as 10978
Change the meter Read Interval from "Paused" to "Every 5 seconds" or a any of the other Intervals available in the drop down list
Set up Local or Remote

Setting up Local or Remote

If you are reading your meters Locally (i.e. with a USB converter or and RS-232 converter) follow the instructions for Local below.
If you are reading your meters Remotely (i.e. with an iSerial using you LAN network or over the internet) follow the instructions for Remote below.

Local

If you have a PC with a RS-232 DB9 serial port:
Connect your meters (up to 256) to your RS-232 to RS-485 converter, connect the converter to the DB9 serial port on your computer.
In the Local tab of the EKM Dash software select Com Port: COM Port 1

If you have a computer with USB ports and on of our USB converters (do not use other USB converters as they are often times problematic):
Connect your meters (up to 256) to your USB to RS-485 converter, plug the USB converter into the USB port of your computer.
If your computer does not automatically download the USB drivers, download the USB drivers from FTDI found here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
In the Local tab of the EKM Dash software select your USB Com Port. This can be any number from COM 8 to COM 24 or some reference to USB Port

Click "OK"

Remote

If you are using an iSerial to read your meters either over your LAN network or over the Internet, please use this section:

Make sure you have the correct settings in your iSerial.

Open a web browser (Firefox is preferred)
Go to this URL to access your iSerial: 192.168.1.125 If your LAN network has a different range you will have to follow the instructions found in the spec sheet: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM-iS ... -Sheet.pdf

Enter User ID: admin
Password: admin

Click on UART

Set the UART Control to:

Baud Rate: default 9600(v.3 meters) or 1200(v.2 meters)
Character bits: 7
Parity Type: Even
Stop Bits: 1
Hardware Flow Control: None

Click "Update"

Set the iSerial IP address and Port. This is best explained here: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM-iS ... -Sheet.pdf

If you are reading your meters over the internet:
You will have to open a port in the firewall of your router.
You will have to get assigned a static IP or use a service like dynDNS to acquire a static name. Instructions for doing this are best found here: http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM-iS ... -Sheet.pdf

Do not change any other settings. Do not click Firmware Update or Bootloader Update.

Setting up Remote in the EKM Dash

Click the "Remote" tab
In the Meter Address or iSerial Address field enter the IP address of your iSerial. This can either be the IP address on the LAN network (if you are reading it locally, for example 192.168.1.123), the remote internet public static IP address (for example 144.145.187.30), or your internet name (for example meters.ekmmetering.com)

Enter the Port
Default is 50000

Click "OK"

Reading Your Meters
In the main window Click "Start Reading"
Click on the Meter you want to view in the "Meter" column
Click on a meter read in the "Readings" column
The meter data will be displayed in the "Data" and "Value" columns to the right

Hi Jameson,

Thanks for your kind reply. :D :)

1-Pumps or Chillers are using only 3 wires for 3 phase (No neutral) so i will consider this as a 3 wires system & only need 2 CT.
2-Installed EKM Dash & thru RS485/232 converter read Meter.
3-Purchasing dept of my company sent me a link for EKM Reader software & they paid some amount for that software & i have
to use that software need your help on this.
4- What is the difference between EKM Push & EKM Push Pro, & is it available for sale :?:
5-Want to use meter on different sites & need to record information from all site, what i understand that by using EKM Push
we can keep record from each site :?:
6- for example i have 4-5 buildings & in each building i will install on EKM-omnimeter, whats else i need so i can record
volt, amps & Kilo watt Hour reading in a PC at my office? you can say i want to make a network.
7-for testing purpose need to Rest meter, is it possible in the field to rest meter to 00000000000.
8-How can i made EKM Widget :?:
9-What kind of reports i can generate from system :?:

Sohali,

Thanks for getting back to us.
1-Pumps or Chillers are using only 3 wires for 3 phase (No neutral) so i will consider this as a 3 wires system & only need 2 CT.
Yes, this is called a 3-phase 3-wire system, you will install your meter using 2 CTs. Here is a video showing proper wiring of a 3-phase 3-wire system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upNgFNV6 ... re=related
2-Installed EKM Dash & thru RS485/232 converter read Meter.
Good to hear you got it working!
3-Purchasing dept of my company sent me a link for EKM Reader software & they paid some amount for that software & i have
to use that software need your help on this.
If you have purchased the full version of the EKM Reader software your will also get the full version of the EKM Dash software. We will send you the EKM Reader software, but at this point we will recommend you use the EKM Dash software moving forward.
4- What is the difference between EKM Push & EKM Push Pro, & is it available for sale
The EKM Push Pro has a "hardened" power supply (overkill for most situations), it also has opto-isolated RS-485. We consider the EKM Push Pro to be for use in critical infrastucture (think hospitals) or when you might have 100s of meters connected to each EKM Push Pro.
5-Want to use meter on different sites & need to record information from all site, what i understand that by using EKM Push
we can keep record from each site
Yes the EKM Push system is the best if you have multiple sites. There is no configuration on install and you do not have to configure each network or maintain connection to each network. If you had 100 EKM Pushes spread across the world reading 10,000 meters all of this data would be pushed directly to your EKM Push account for you to easily access.
6- for example i have 4-5 buildings & in each building i will install on EKM-omnimeter, whats else i need so i can record
volt, amps & Kilo watt Hour reading in a PC at my office? you can say i want to make a network.
At each building you will have 1 EKM Push and 1 to 256 EKM Omnimeters and CTs. With this you will have access to all of the data (plus a lot more) from any computer in the world. Here is the EKM Push Schema (showing the data that is available): http://documents.ekmmetering.com/EKM_Push_Schema.pdf
7-for testing purpose need to Rest meter, is it possible in the field to rest meter to 00000000000.
There is no way to reset our meters to zero kWh. This is a requirement of revenue grade meters. In order to keep track of how many kWh have been used for any install, you will need to note the beginning and ending kWh.
8-How can i made EKM Widget

We can share the source code of the EKM Widget with you if you are interested. Or you can click the "i" on the EKM Widget and enter your own meter number and user key to view your own meter data.
9-What kind of reports i can generate from system
Please take a look at the current reporting tools that we have on the EKM Push page here: http://www.ekmmetering.com/push-communications

We will be adding the EKM Push data to the EKM Dash software, so that you can create .csv files or email reports using the EKM Push data. We should have this within 4-6 weeks. We will also be adding other ways of seeing your data on the web and will be encouraging third party developers to create web or software interfaces for the EKM Push data.

If you ever need anything at all, please let us know.
