ct lead length

Post by missouri100 »

Will it affect accuracy to shorten the leads on the CT's? I have a EKM-OmniMeter I v.3 Universal Smart Meter on a three phase system.

thanks

Hello Missouri100! Welcome to the forum :D

Shortening the leads on the CT should not be a problem. I would shorten them and then solder the wire end so that you can ensure good contact with the meter CT terminal blocks.

For others information: The CTs we sell come with 6 ft. of black and white wire leads. If you are thinking of lengthening the wire leads this will reduce the accuracy of the CT meter combination. We have seen a 1% accuracy drop when we have extended the leads by 50 ft. We cannot stand behind the accuracy of our meters if the CT wires are lengthened. If you do lengthen the CT wires, be sure to solder the wire ends and the places where the CT wires are spliced.

Thanks,
Jameson
