unbalanced reverse

Post by bartgoossens »

I just installed 3 phase v3 EKM with 800A CTs. Data coming in just fine. But I have trouble understanding what is going on.

It is installed in a hotel. There are 3 phases coming in at 120v to neutral each, but all the loads are 120v or 208/240v, there are no 3phase loads. And the distribution is through 2 120/208v panels, so the loads are not balanced over the 3 phases at all.

On one of the phases, I have a cos Phi of 0.4C. And thre is forward and reverse kWh. but there is no generator present.

Is this because of the imbalanced loads? We have checked the arrows on the CTs, they are all in the same direction. We did not configure anything at all on the meter or push box, and since it is a remote site, we can´t check anything there now. We should have configured the 800A CTs, but the meter thinks they are 200A CTs, so we just have to multiply the kWh by 4 right?

I attach the measurements so far.
Why can´t I attach a CSV, TXT, XLSX, not even pdf????
here´s the link to the file in my public dropbox folder

Any help with explaining what is going on would be apreciated.

Hello bartgoosens,

Welcome to the forum, and than you very much for your data set.

I am guessing that you have something installed backwards. If you are seeing Reverse kWh and you do not expect it, I would check these items first:
  • Make sure the arrows on the CTs are facing towards the load.

Make sure you have CT1 installed on line 1, CT2 on line 2, CT3 on line3.

Make sure the voltage reference from Line 1 goes to Line1 power reference (port 7) on the meter, make sure the voltage reference from Line 2 goes to Line2 power on the meter, etc. Connect the neutral to the meter at port 10.

Make sure your CT wires are connecting into the meter in the right order: For OmniMeters it should be black-white, black-white-etc. from left to right, going into the meter itself.

Make sure that the CT on hot line 1 is connecting in to ports 1 and 2 on the meter, and not 3 and 4 , etc.
Here is a video showing proper wiring of a 3-phase 4-wire system (the system you are metering):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeKiZddR0K8

Make sure that the neutral wire is connected and tight. A loose neutral connection will cause the meter to measure improperly.

If you are still having trouble please send us clear photos of the wiring.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,
Jameson

I checked all, and seems to be OK.

We have connected the Push to the L3 and N. Can that cause the funny readings?

I attach photos. We thoroughly checked that CT1 and L1 are the same, as CT2 and L2, CT3 and L3. The arrows are in the load direction. There are no generators on the internal grid.

The Push is not able to affect the meter and how it measures power. It only asks the meter for it's data and send this data to your cloud account. It worries me that you say you connected your Push to high voltage AC power. It can only handle low voltage DC power.

Heads up that I will not be able to help you based on these photos, there is not enough information to understand how this is wired. I still suspect that something is hooked up backwards. Please take clear, focused photos of you panel, the CTs, and the connections into the bottom of the meter. If you are using the same color wire for different legs you will have to explain to me what each wire is. You may benefit from using the sticker sheet getting everything installed and then taking the photos (this way we can see how you have everything connected, it will also help you keep the wires organized). Here is a link to the sticker sheet: http://www.ekmmetering.com/sticker-sheet.html

Hopefully you didn't have to pour out any wine to get those phase A, B, and C wine bottle corks!
