Looking at my new EKM-25IDS the installation seems pretty simple but I'm concerned that having 2 exposed wires would violate NEC regulations for protecting live wires. Anyone know anything about this? Is there some way I can comply with the regulations?

Hello rhumbliner,

Welcome to the forum.

I would not use the 25IDS in your situation. It has taps that pierce the wire that the meter is measuring, to pickup both the power for the meter, and to give the meter it voltage references. This tap could be touched with a paper clip if either the wire size is too small or the reducing bushings are not used. This meter should always be installed inside of an enclosure.

We would never install a 25IDS with the wire exposed. To increase safety, I would always install the 25IDS in an enclosure that can be secured and sealed. For example: https://www.ekmmetering.com/ul-watertig ... 31808.html

If you are concerned about safety or safety regulations, I would recommend our UL Listed Omnimeter II v.3 UL. It has be tested and certified to UL 61010-1. This meter is here on our website: https://www.ekmmetering.com/ekm-omnimet ... -amps.html
