Suggestion for EKM Dash Pulse Counters

Post by Ezzie »

I am using Dorot metric water meters with a reed switch pickup that puts out 1 pulse per 1/10 of a cu. mtr. (10 liters). With the EKM Omnimeter Pulse V4 there does not appear to be a setting option to count these pulses on a 1:1 basis, only liters and milliliters. Canada and Mexico are on the metric system so the US gallon conversions are useless to us. Is there any plans to add more options to future versions of EKM Dash? I would also like to see a user configurable option for setting up the pulse counters as I would like to integrate other pulse readings (such as a time base) into the EKM reader.

I do realize I can set the Pulse Value to "Milliliter" and the Input Ratio to 100:1 but this gives me a display in milliliters so a bit confusing to always have to convert (1000 ml. = 1 liter). My end calculations I want to get to is a flow rate measurement of ltrs./sec. and a pump efficiency calculation of cu. mtrs./kWhr. consumed to monitor well performance. I will be using an accurate 1 Hz time base from a square wave pulse generator connected to one of the other pulse inputs on the Omnimeter Pulse v4 to give me the time reference I need.

Hello Ezzie,

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like the Dash software should work for you. Will you try setting it up just like this?:

This should take the 1 pulse per 1/10th cubic meter and convert it to Liters. Let me know if you see any issues with these settings.

Here is what it spits out in the data stream:

Cool to hear how you are using the pulse input to give you a rate of water flow! Using the pulse input in this way opens a lot of possibilities, like a runtime timer for example. Let us know how it works out!

Thanks Jameson. Works like a charm!! I didn't realize you could set the Pulse Value to a decimal - wow, slick product. You guys are amazing and have an incredible product line.
