I think BlueHornets advice was sound I would have tried a couple other things before recommending the same thing (having to do with VCOM software). But at this point I am at a loss. I would imagine that you are right that the Factory Reset was successful, it is now in an unknown state, we dont know the user name and password, so we are stuck. What do you say we go with nuclear option 2 and we ship you out a replacement. It would be good to get your old one back so that we can see if we can tinker with it here. If so, email us and we will get it sorted.

Heads up that we just conducted an experiment here on an iSerial. We changed the user name and password to something other than the default admin/admin, then we did a factory reset, the iSerial user name and password reverted back to admin/admin.

Here's what I did.
First I used BlueHornet's method from his post of October 16, 2012.

1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable
2. Disconnect the serial cable
3. Disconnect the power supply
4. Unscrew the two screws on each side on the unit and remove the cover
5. Locate the small white reset button, next to the power supply jack
6. Press and hold the reset button
7. While holding the reset button re-connect the power supply
8. The Power LED light will light up
9. After 7 – 10 seconds, while holding the reset button, the green LED will flash once
10. The Serial Server is now reset to factory settings

When the lights didn't flash as noted, I used your recommended methods from your post from the same day. And I also used both methods as recommended.

1. Unplug ethernet
2. Start with iSerial Powered Up
3. Hold reset button (this is a teeny tiny button inside the iSerial that is located between the Power Barrel Jack connector and the Ethernet Connector.)
4. Unplug power with reset still held
5. Plug power in after 10 seconds
6. Release Reset Button
7. wait 10 seconds
8. Plug in iSerial power
9. Green LED should be in a slow flash


Or.......

1. Unplug ethernet.
2. Open up the iSerial enclosure using a screwdriver.
3. Plug in the power.
4. Locate the small reset button between the power jack and the ethernet input.
5. Hold down the button and unplug the device.
6. Still holding the button down, wait 10 seconds.
7. Still holding the button down, plug power back in.
8. Still holding the button down, wait 10 seconds then release the reset button.
9. Unplug the device.
10.Plug ethernet back in and plug power back in.

No green light here either. Does that offer any clues?

I would try 15 seconds instead of 10 seconds between operations.

Here is our latest set of instructions to reset an iSerial with the manual reset button:

1. Unplug ethernet.
2. Open up the iSerial enclosure using a screwdriver.
3. Plug in the 9VDC power.
4. Locate the small reset button between the power jack and the ethernet input.
5. Hold down the button and unplug the device.
6. Still holding the button down, wait 15 seconds.
7. Still holding the button down, plug power back in.
8. Still holding the button down, wait 15 seconds then release the reset button.
9. Unplug the device.
10.Plug ethernet back in and plug power back in.

Are you saying that you dont have a green light on the "Link" LED? Are you still able to access the login screen?

My statements to no green light referred to your's and BlueHornet's 2012 procedures which indicated it should blink while resetting. It comes on once the Ethernet cable is plugged in, however, 2 of the procedures didn't note that it should be plugged back in during the procedure, but indicated the light should come on.

The new procedure was unsuccessful.

I will send you this unit. If you find that you're able to get past the login then I'll need more of an education as to what I'm doing wrong, if not, we'll go from there.
